Surprise! I didn't cry!

At least I was surprised I didn't cry...

Today was Sofia's first day of kindergarten and Fiona's first day of preschool.  My little girls were so excited about entering this new phase of their lives and have been waiting for several months for their "first day". 

Fiona and I walked Sofia into her classroom and was greeted by her teacher, Senora Rodriguez.  We stayed for a few minutes, gave her a big hug and left her looking a little nervous, but happily drawing a picture.  I'm not sure why I didn't cry since I certainly thought I would, but I guess Sofia is such an old pro that I was sure she would have a great time.  And she did.  She made a new friend (she couldn't remember her name, but they share a locker) and played tag and hula hooped during recess.

It was gym day for her first day of school.



Fiona had a great day at her first day of preschool and was happy to see some old friends.  Her teacher said she acted like she'd been there all along.

I'm so proud of Sofia and Fiona for being so brave and eager to learn.  They're happy little girls and I was so excited to share today with them.

Mexico Baby!

We spent a week in Acapulco with my aunt Diana, her boyfriend and my cousin's children who are six and eight.  The trip was a little long because it started with a road-trip to Pittsburgh and an overnight stay at the Hyatt adjacent to the hotel.  The girls had fun in the pool, but not so thrilled with getting up before the sun rose the next morning.  Nevertheless it was a pretty easy trip.  We had a layover in Houston, but the connection was so close that we made the next flight when they were boarding.  The girls napped and colored and watched movies on the flights, so that by 1:30PM we were in Mexico City.

We spent the first afternoon in Mexico City visiting with some family and then drove to Acapulco where Diana had rented a house.  The house had four bedrooms and four baths, two swimming pools and a little swingset, so it was perfect; except for the lack of A/C!  In Acapulco.  With 90+ degree days...on the plus side the kids' room had air conditioning and we had heavy-duty fans.  We also spent the days in the pool and the beach so it was bearable. 

The kids had a great time in the water and Sofia and Fiona got even more courageous in the water by jumping in and trying to swim without their floaties.
