The girls were good troopers as we made our way to Leon, Guanajuato via Chicago and Houston. We drove to Chicago on Saturday morning, played with the cousins and went to bed early for our 4:30AM wake up call. Surprisingly we barely made our flight, despite getting to the airport early (we thought), but thanks to a nice airline attendant (shout out to United!) who escorted us to security and asked the TSA lady to let us through in front of a line full of other people, we made it to the plane while it was boarding.
The girls stayed awake on the flight to Houston and watched a few shows on the DVD and ate much of the snacks I packed. Once in Houston we made our way to a terminal on the other side of the airport and waited an hour or so.
Val's family met us at the airport and were incredibly gracious and welcoming. They waited, and waited, until we got through customs and then picked up the rental car. I was a bit nervous about driving, but traffic was light and Val's dad drove slowly so as not to lose me. After a wonderful lunch we went back to the hotel to meet with my family.
My aunt, uncle and three cousins arrived, along with my cousin Marifer's husband and two adorable girls, Maria Jose ("Majo", 5 years old) and Sofi (4 years old). The kids were all shy, initially, but then began coloring together.
Within an hour they were fast friends and played together into the late evening.
