Sofia has been saying quite a few words lately and has added a new “sign”. Her sign for “cold” is hugging her body, shivering and saying “brrr..”
According to her teachers she’s said “Hanukah”, although I haven’t heard it! Her current words include:
Hot (and she purses her lips and blows while saying it)
Up! (while she holds her arms up waiting for you to pick her up)
Hi!
Bye-bye (and waves)
Cheese
Shoes
Ka-ka (meaning either a dirty diaper or something yucky, like garbage or something she shouldn’t eat)
Nana (meaning “banana” and she also makes the sign for it)
Anna (a classmate)
Ball
Agua
No!
Nice
Mas (she’s been saying that since she was eight months old)
If you point to certain animals in a book she makes the sounds for a cat, dog, cow, sheep, and horse.
Of course her favorite word is “Elmo!” We made the mistake of introducing “Sesame Street” a few weeks ago and she loves it. She really likes the singing and dancing and she’ll dance along with the characters. Joe also taught her about fast-forwarding, so she reaches for the remote and gives it us when they talk too much.
She also understands quite a bit in both English and Spanish. She knows the word “bath” and she’ll “wash” her hair when you say, “Are you ready for a bath?” She also makes the sign for food, especially if you ask her if she’s hungry.
She regularly scolds Merlin (I guess we’ve set a bad example) by saying “No, Merlin, No!” and pointing her finger at him.
