We just returned from our week-long vacation outside of Playa del Carmen, in the Mexican Riviera Maya, along with Joe’s parents. It was a beautiful, hip, resort with numerous pools of all sizes. The rooms were large and included two bedrooms, two bathrooms with Jacuzzis and a living room with kitchenette. We also had a patio and a dipping pool. The beach itself was gorgeous and had soft, white sand and turquoise waters, although it was a bit windy. As a result the waters were a little rough and a little rocky.

We didn’t do more than walk on the beach, but we played in the pool everyday.

After playing in the pool in the mornings, Sofia participated in crafts. She made her first beaded necklace, a paper mache flower, a piñata and picture frames. She also had her face painted everyday. Joe tried his hand at ping pong one day by participating in a tournament.

We ventured into Playa del Carmen one afternoon to do some walking and for dinner. We came across this character that terrified Sofia. She kept saying “I don’t like this guy.”
Aside from this guy, Sofia enjoyed walking and stopping every few feet to shake her booty to music that poured out of restaurants and stores. She was really cute and entertained many of the diners who watched her dancing.
Joe and I visited Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, one day. The grandparents were brave enough to volunteer to babysit the whole day.

We also stopped by a cenote, a cave/well, on our way to Chichen Itza. That part of the country is full of cenotes and many are connected underground. The water was surprisingly blue. Neither of us dove in, but plenty of others did.
A few days later we all went to Tulum, also a beautiful (more so than Chichen Itza, in my opinion) Mayan site. Unfortunately it was actually chilly and it rained off and on. Nonetheless the ruins were impressive and the beach was gorgeous.

On our last night we went to a “Fiesta Mexicana” that included traditional Mexican music, performances and food. Sofia loved the music and dancing.

Kitchen Update
The kitchen is 99% done! Some of our existing cabinets have to be painted and add some door pulls, but aside from that, it’s done.
Looking at these pics, I noticed it didn’t take long for us to clutter up the counters!
